The Perfect Summer Movies

What makes a summer movie good?

The perfect summer movies (in my opinion at least) are movies that make you feel good without being too intense or dramatic. Movies that have just the right blend of happiness, comedy, romance, and heartbreak. They aren't dark or serious (read: The Black Swan or The Hours), but instead make you feel like you just had a deliciously light smoothie.

Some of my favorite summer smoothies, er, movies, are these ones:

1.) The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants
This movie is a great blend of happiness, friendship, and also some bittersweet moments. I love that any girl could probably tell you who they could relate with the most in this film. I think I'd be most like Lena. Maybe.

2.) Transformers
Hahahaha. I can see your faces now. "What?? This girly girl likes...what?" Yup. It's true. But seriously guys. How can you not love all the action and crazily unnecessary, overbudgeted scenes from this film? It's so ridiculous is's amazing.

3.) Any Harry Potter movie
Yes yes. You could call these movies "dark". Especially if He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is in them. He is the "Dark" Lord after all (har har). But I love watching these movies in the summertime, and imagining getting my Hogwarts letter from owl post the next day.

4.) Now and Then
Many of my favorite summer movies make me think of my mom for some reason. Like this movie, which she says is exactly what she remembers her summers to be like. This movie, and movies like My Girl are also great to watch when you need a good cry. Not a dramatic, sobbing til you can't breathe kind of cry. A good, old-fashioned boo hoo. Anyways, if you haven't seen this you need to. It's wonderful and tearjerking, and it has everything you want in a heartwarming summer movie.

5.) Pirates of the Caribbean
ALL these movies embody what I think the perfect summer blockbuster should have. When you go to the movies in the summer you don't really want to think about complex things. You want to have a swashbuckling good time. The first time I went to see the first POTC movie was when I took my mom out for her birthday. We sat in the theater afterwards and were like "wow, this was SO MUCH FUN". Summertime movies are supposed to be fun and fancy-free. Like going on the Ferris wheel at and amusement park or hunting ghost crabs on the beach at night.

Anyways, there's just a smattering of my favorites. Now it's time to share your favs :)
